Private Book Coaching

Writing a book is a big, brave project — and you don’t have to do it alone.

I offer private, individualised book coaching for writers who need support and accountability in finishing a first draft or polishing a well-trodden manuscript.

Whether you’re at the idea stage or deep in a messy draft, my coaching is practical, supportive, and grounded in real publishing experience.

I know how books are written, and how they move from idea to manuscript to publication.

My coaching is grounded in real-world experience, craft expertise, and years of teaching. I have published two novels with one of the Big Five publishers in Australia, completed a PhD in English and Writing, and been teaching creative writing for more than a decade at universities, writers’ centres and privately.

Plus, I have a background in copywriting, editing and proofreading… not to mention I know what it’s like to be crying at my desk over a manuscript that’s not quite working, and/or deep cleaning the lint out of the dryer in a procrastinatory attempt to do anything BUT face the anxiety of a blank page.

Coaching sessions are tailored to you and can include:

  • Developing or refining your book idea

  • Structure, plotting, and chapter planning

  • Voice, style, and clarity

  • Draft feedback and problem-solving

  • Accountability and momentum

  • Preparing a manuscript for submission or next-stage editing

  • Navigating traditional vs independent publishing pathways

Overwhelm is real. So I like to end each session with positivity, encouragement, and clear next steps.

Testimonials

“I highly recommend Amy Lovat's service. Her insightful comments and clear-eyed analysis helped me see what was working in the manuscript and what needed development. She gave practical suggestions for fixing problems and some welcome encouragement for the parts she liked. She was professional, fast and a pleasure to work with. I could not have been happier with the experience."

Genevieve Gannon, author

“I just wanted to say a huge thank you for working with me this semester. [It has been] fantastic to have you as my writing mentor. I have learnt so much and had so many “aha” moments that I will carry forward into all my future writing. And of course, I am hoping that you will consider working with me in future as an editor because your ability to see my characters for who they really are and help me to present them in the best light has been amazing. Your enthusiasm for my story and characters has been greatly uplifting. And all the little asides and other tips, inspirational. I think that is what made this experience so joyful for me.”
